Web design encompasses many different skills and disciplines in the production and maintenance of websites. The different areas of web design include web graphic design; interface design; authoring
Often many individuals will work in teams covering different aspects of the design process, although some designers will cover them all.

  • Marketing and communication design
  • User experience design and interactive design
  • Part of the user interface design is affected by the quality of the page layout.

Web designers may choose to limit the variety of website typefaces to only a few which are of a similar style, instead of using a wide range of typefaces or type styles. Most browsers recognize a specific number of safe fonts, which designers mainly use in order to avoid complications.Font downloading was later included in the CSS3 fonts module

A creative or graphic designer is responsible for illustrating, photographing and laying out promotional and functional materials for a business.

The page layout and user interface may also be affected by the use of motion graphics. The choice of whether or not to use motion graphics may depend on the target market for the website.

Creative Portfolio Web Design

Web colors are colors used in displaying web pages, and the methods for describing and specifying those colors. Colors may be specified as an RGB triplet
Color trends change, but vibrant color choices are a design element that stand the test of time. Bright color choices contribute to and work with the design itself to help provide valuable user experiences.

  • Color blocks refers to dividing content into a grid and applying different colors
  • Colored hover states are also quite straight forward
  • The color changes to provide visual feedback to users

Designers were often encouraged to stick to these 216 „web-safe” colors in their websites; however, 8-bit color displays were much more common when the 216-color palette was developed than they are now. David Lehn and Hadley Stern have since discovered that only 22 of the 216 colors in the web-safe palette are reliably displayed without inconsistent remapping on 16-bit computer displays.

The trend started with websites for more creative fields and groups – designers, agencies, music and art

Bright color is also finding a place in e-commerce, where black and white was the standard for a long time.

Creative in Few Minutes

Creativity is a phenomenon whereby something new and somehow valuable is formed. The created item may be intangible or a physical object.

Scholarly interest in creativity involves many definitions and concepts pertaining to a number of disciplines: psychology, cognitive science, education, philosophy (particularly philosophy of science), technology

  • The fluid grid concept calls for page element sizing to be in relative units
  • Flexible images are also sized in relative units
  • Media queries allow the page to use different CSS style rules

Responsive web design is becoming more important as the amount of mobile traffic now accounts for more than half of total internet traffic. This trend is so prevalent that Google has begun to boost the ratings of sites that are mobile friendly if the search was made from a mobile device. This has the net effect of penalizing sites that are not mobile friendly.

„Mobile first”, unobtrusive JavaScript, and progressive enhancement are related concepts that predate RWD.

Browsers of basic mobile phones do not understand JavaScript or media queries, so a recommended practice is to create a basic web site and enhance it for smart phones and PCs.

New Web Layout Ideas

Part of the user interface design is affected by the quality of the page layout. A designer may consider whether the site’s page layout should remain consistent on different pages when designing the layout.

Page pixel width may also be considered vital for aligning objects in the layout design. The most popular fixed-width websites generally have the same set width to match the current most popular browser window, at the current most popular screen resolution, on the current most popular monitor size.

  • Most pages are also center-aligned for concerns of aesthetics on larger screens.
  • Fluid layouts increased in popularity around 2000 as an alternative to HTML-table-based layouts
  • Web designers may choose to limit the variety of website typefaces

The page layout and user interface may also be affected by the use of motion graphics. The choice of whether or not to use motion graphics may depend on the target market for the website. Motion graphics may be expected or at least better received with an entertainment-oriented website.

Website designers may consider it to be good practice to conform to standards. This is usually done via a description

Failure to conform to standards may not make a website unusable or error prone, but standards can relate to the correct layout of pages for readability as well making sure coded elements are closed appropriately.

Why RWD Is Not Worth It

Responsive web design (RWD) is an approach to web design aimed at crafting sites to provide an optimal viewing and interaction experience—easy reading and navigation with a minimum of resizing, panning

A site designed with RWD adapts the layout to the viewing environment by using fluid, proportion-based grids, flexible images, and CSS3 media queries, an extension of the @media rule, in the following ways:

  • The fluid grid concept calls for page element sizing to be in relative units
  • Flexible images are also sized in relative units
  • Media queries allow the page to use different CSS style rules

Elements of UX Design

User Experience Design (UXD or UED or XD) is the process of enhancing user satisfaction by improving the usability, accessibility, and pleasure provided in the interaction between the user and the product.

User experience design encompasses traditional human–computer interaction (HCI) design, and extends it by addressing all aspects of a product or service as perceived by users.

  • Visual design, also commonly known as graphic design, communication design
  • Information architecture is the art and science of structuring and organizing
  • Structuring is reducing information to its basic building units

User experience design incorporates most or all of the above disciplines to positively impact the overall experience a person has with a particular interactive system, and its provider. User experience design most frequently defines a sequence of interactions between a user (individual person) and a system, virtual or physical, designed to meet or support user needs and goals, primarily.

The UX designer needs to find out as much as he can about people, process and products before the design phase.

The designers can do this by meeting with the clients frequently in order to know what the client requirements are. Designers can also conduct user interviews in the users’ work space in order to familiarize themselves with the target user base.

Square Book Mock-Up

In manufacturing and design, a mockup, or mock-up, is a scale or full-size model of a design or device, used for teaching, demonstration, design evaluation, promotion, and other purposes.
A mockup is a prototype if it provides at least part of the functionality of a system and enables testing of a design. Mock-ups are used by designers mainly to acquire feedback from users. Mock-ups address the idea captured in a popular engineering one-liner: You can fix it now on the drafting board with an eraser or you can fix it later on the construction site with a sledge hammer.

  • Mockups are used in the automotive device industry
  • Mockups, wireframes and prototypes are not so cleanly distinguished
  • Mockups are an integral part of the military acquisition process

In the words of Jan Tschichold, book design, „though largely forgotten today, methods and rules upon which it is impossible to improve, have been developed over centuries. To produce perfect books, these rules have to be brought back to life and applied.” Richard Hendel describes book design as „an arcane subject”, and refers to the need for a context to understand what that means.

Mockups are used as design tools virtually everywhere a new product is designed. Mockups are commonly required by designers, architects

The intention is often to produce a full-sized replica, using inexpensive materials in order to verify a design.
